Doug Morgan: Executive Director

With 24 successful years in the human services field under his belt, and as the entrepreneurial leader of eight organizational start-ups, including two nonprofits, Doug Morgan has now served as executive director of Community Assistance Network for the last six years. Doug is a magna cum laude graduate of Simpson University, and earned highest honors as a Master of Arts in Philosophy of Religion from Denver Seminary. Named the 2006 Nonprofit Leader of the Year by the Northern California Association of Nonprofits, he is also a member of American Mensa, holds local memberships with the FEMA Designated Local Board, Del Norte Evangelical Ministerial Association, Children's Services Coordinating Council, Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council, Child Abuse Prevention Council, Family Resource Center Advisory Board, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Health Alliance of Humboldt-Del Norte. Doug, his wife Kathy, daughter Somerset, and son Stirling, have made their abode in the earth’s most beautiful area – Del Norte County – for the last seven years and plan to make it for life. Kendra Howerton: Deputy Director

Kendra discovered her passion for serving people and the community in the non-profit sector seven years ago, when she volunteered at a non-profit agency in the Mid-west. She has since served in multiple capacities including: Client Services Director, Assistant Director, Family Services Coordinator and Executive Director. Kendra joined CAN’s team in April 2008 and now enjoys her role serving as Deputy Director and Community Development. “I became aware of CAN and the many ways the organization serves the community through a tour. I knew at that moment I wanted to be a part of the work. I began volunteering my time, assisting with the Newsletter and eventually accepted a position with the family services division. One of the things I appreciate most about CAN, is the spirit of teamwork and collaboration for the betterment of our community. Paula Henry, Finance Manager

Born and raised in Las Vegas, NV. My family moved to Los Angeles when I was 12. I moved to Oregon and the beautiful North Coast in August of this year to be closer to my family and parents who have lived here for 18 years. Graduated from California State University Dominquez Hills in 1996, with a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (General Education) with a minor in Labor Studies. Angela Glore, Director of Food Programs
|
Angela has a lifelong interest in food issues and has worked in many sectors of the food system including small-scale agriculture, institutional food service, and food and agriculture research. She holds a Masters (1999) and Ph.D. (2006) in anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis. Her dissertation research involved five months of fieldwork in Mexico tracing three traditional crops from seed to field to market to illicit cross-border trade, and interviewing the farmers, marketers, and processors of these traditional Mexican foods. In the mid-1990s, after years of teaching, cooking, and community organizing, Angela was a market gardener for two and a half years, growing a variety of vegetables, herbs, and small fruit in New York State. She was on the founding board of her local farmers’ market in Warwick, New York. After a few years in the Alaskan bush and the Mojave Desert, Angela and her family landed in Crescent City in 2009 and soon after, started working with CAN through AmeriCorps/VISTA. Joining CAN in 2011 as Director of Food Programs, Angela is excited to continue working with food, gardening, and farming in the greater Del Norte community. Email: aglore@canbless.org
